Fans were shocked when the CW cancelled The Tomorrow People after only one season, but they can take some consolation in knowing that Robbie Amell will be returning the the network’s line-up this fall anyways, as he’s just been cast in the upcoming Arrow spin-off, The Flash, in a major recurring role.

“I’m so excited to join forces with Greg Berlanti and The CW again on The Flash. Being brought into the DC Universe is a dream, I can’t wait to get started,” said the actor.

Amell will be playing Ronnie Raymond, one half of the Marvel superhero team Firestorm in the highly anticipated new series. His character is set to debut in the third episode. Besides living a double life, he is also the fiance of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), who fans met during the second of two Arrow/The Flash crossover episodes last spring.

According to THR, Amell’s character works at S.T.A.R. Labs and played an integral part in the particle accelerator accident responsible for Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) transformation into The Flash.

Greg Berlanti, executive producer of The Flash, made the following statement about the latest casting choice:

“[Executive producers] Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and I designed the pilot and series to include Ronnie (aka Firestorm) — and to actually have someone with Robbie’s talent playing the role is beyond exciting. We can’t wait for viewers and fans of the character to check it out.”

Along with Amell, The Flash stars Gustin, Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Jesse L. Martin, Candice Patton, Tom Cavanagh, Rick Cosnett and John Wesley Shipp.

The Flash is set to premiere on the CW on October 7 at 8/7 PM.
