Developer NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Interactive announced today that their upcoming brawler Mortal Kombat X will launch globally across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on April 14th, 2015.
In tandem with the announcement, the studio also confirmed that iconic four-armed titan Goro will serve as an in-game pre-order perk — though whether the character will become available as paid DLC further down the line remains to be seen. Moreover, it’s unclear which retailers will offer the incentive to consumers ahead of time. Either way, the Shokan warrior is sure to bring absolute brute force to the roster come release.
Announced during the build-up to E3 back in June, Mortal Kombat X is set to introduce a host of new features into the seminal franchise. Chief among the additions is no doubt online play, with NetherRealm promising a “persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy.”
It’s understood we can also expect some semblance of a story within this reboot-of-sorts, with Ed Boon hinting that the dynamic between series’ stalwarts Scorpion and Sub-Zero could serve as the narrative lynchpin.
Mortal Kombat X will be dragged kicking and screaming onto the eight generation of consoles when it debuts on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on April 14th, 2015.
