Zen Studios, the team behind titles such as Zen Pinball and CastleStorm, have announced that they will be releasing a Special Edition of KickBeat on the PlayStation 4 and Wii U next week. The rhythm-based brawler previously launched for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in 2013.

Set in a world where every last piece of music is being stolen, players must fight to the rhythm of the remaining 18 songs in order to save the day. The soundtrack for KickBeat features several popular songs, including Marilyn Manson’s The Beautiful People, Papa Roach’s Last Resort, POD’s Boom and more. The Special Edition will feature a handful of additional levels and tracks, as well as a music-analyzing feature that will create new levels based around user-selected songs.

I haven’t had the chance to play through the original KickBeat yet, but reviews for the title were solid enough. Our own John Fleury claimed that the game was “quite fun” once you get past a handful of technical issues and presentation problems. Hopefully the technical issues from the last-gen versions, won’t carry over to the Special Edition.

KickBeat Special Edition will be available for the PlayStation 4 beginning September 16, and the Wii U shortly after on September 18. An Xbox One version of the title is also in development, but Zen Studios has not announced a release date for it yet.
