According to a listing by US retailer Fred Meyer, Super Smash Bros. will launch for Wii U on November 21st, 2014.
The as-yet-unconfirmed date was first spotted on product registration cards for the upcoming brawler, which aligns with earlier reports that pegged the home console release for November.
Specifically, this report suggested that the Wii U incarnation would indeed launch alongside the company’s first batch of Amiibo figurines. After all, Super Smash Bros. is one of the few titles that supports the peripherals at this early stage, so launching a blockbuster title in tandem with the accessories is a logical decision for The Big N to make.
Having focused solely on the 3DS iteration of Super Smash Bros. with limited edition bundles and accessories, it’s no wonder that Nintendo is yet to confirm a Wii U release date. The anticipated title is currently scheduled to hit the company’s handheld on October 3rd and, given that the home console version has been tethered with a vague winter 2014 launch window since it was announced, it’s clear the publisher wants to ensure the 3DS iteration is out in the wild before detailing the release of its console brethren.
Elsewhere, it’s understood that players will be able to utilize the 3DS as a controller when playing the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros., allowing budding fighters to connect the handheld from the get-go for some good old fashioned mayhem.
At this time, it’s unclear whether this purported release date of November 21st is an error on the retailer’s part or not. But we’ll be to sure to keep you updated on all the news pertaining to Super Smash Bros. on Wii U as it appears.
