If you attended this summer’s PAX Prime convention then you may have seen a strange spectacle unfold, that being Ubisoft’s animal-versus-animal cage matches. Well, to be specific, it was merely humans dressed up in animal suits doing the fighting, though that didn’t make it any less weird.
The stunt was put on as a way to advertise Far Cry 4 and its new arena mode, wherein players are forced to take on enemies of both the human and animal varieties. From the looks of things, it’s a wave-based, horde-like scenario, but we haven’t received any confirmation on that front. All we’ve grasped about the mode has essentially come from its newly-released trailer, which is full of baddies getting lead pumped into them.
In the video, elephants and tigers go on the offensive against the human controlled character, offering an interesting challenge in an otherwise predictable scenario. Here’s hoping that the inclusion of such jungle beasts will lead to something unique, great and memorable, because the horde design has become somewhat boring after all of these years.
At least we won’t have to wait long to see if Ubisoft’s decision has paid off, as Far Cry 4 is scheduled to release on November 18, when it will become available for Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
