With only a few months left on the cinematic calendar for 2014, there’s still plenty to look forward to. One such title garnering a slow-build of buzz is Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. Paramount’s enthusiasm for showcasing the film’s impressive cast twinned with bleak, frozen landscapes is practically bursting this week. After yesterday’s new banner granted us a stunning view of a snowy mountainous vista, today Empire have revealed a slew of new images.
The collection of six shots vary from stills to behind-the-scenes snaps, all capturing previously unseen elements of the flick. The cast kitted out in spacesuits, romping across barren terrain, new-fangled ships… there’s a whiff of Prometheus in the air.
Nolan’s tale of a group of space explorers catapulting into the far reaches of space and time via a wormhole continues to spark comparisons to the director’s earlier work. Namely, Inception, that other reality-bending sci-fi melodrama. This time, the helmer stated to the magazine that Interstellar is “almost a mirror image of Inception. It expands out in the way Inception contracts inwards.”
However he chooses to spin it, consider us sold. Especially considering the exuberance from its key player, Matthew McConaughey, who championed the movie’s soaring ambition (via Coming Soon):
“This is the grandest adventure I think any of us will ever see on film. This is the biggest film I’ve ever been a part of. This is one of the biggest films anyone’s ever been a part of.”
If that’s not enough to have you lining up at your local theatre come November, eager for a new take on adventure, then hear what his co-star Anne Hathaway had to say:
“I am so excited for the world to receive this film, because there’s going to be a new conversation I believe will happen because of it. It’s not a dry, science-based film. It has a pulse. It’s got blood in its veins.”
An interesting aside, especially since Nolan’s detractors have notoriously lambasted him for supposedly delivering cold characters without an ounce of heart. Even if you weren’t smitten with the characters that populated Inception, you can’t deny the breathtaking visuals and imaginative scope that we can only hope Nolan continues to develop for this next epic.
