Over the last couple of years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ballooned to an almost monumental size, encompassing sequels, eccentric spinoffs, and even television shows. In fact, the studio has managed to sustain the overarching narrative thread with a ton of Easter Eggs and post-credit stings. But according to an unconfirmed report, Marvel may introduce a new strategy for The Avengers 3.

Citing sources close to the company itself, The Daily Marvelite has reported that Marvel plans to split The Avengers 3 into a two part trilogy-capper, with the first instalment arriving on May 3rd, 2018 and the follow-up on May 3rd, 2019.

Of course, this is merely conjecture at this early stage. Marvel always play their cards rather close to their chest, so it’s unlikely that the studio will publish any information so far away from the threequel’s eventual release. Nevertheless, it’s understood that The Avengers 3 will bring together Earth’s mightiest heroes with the Guardians of the Galaxy in order to overthrow the Mad Titan himself, Thanos.

Such a defining event — one the studio has been building towards for years — may warrant two full-length movies, with the first focusing on the terrestrial superheroes before introducing Star Lord’s ragtag crew of bandits in the second. As a matter of fact, such a plan dovetails nicely with a recent quote from Vin Diesel, who hinted that Marvel’s grand cinematic encounter is a “merging of brands”:

“I get the call, I go down to Marvel. A great meeting. It was even talking about something so big I can’t even talk about because it’s like the merging of brands in a way, which I won’t get into. That was something way, way, way, way, way down the road.”

So, whether it arrives in one or two parts, The Avengers 3 is certainly shaping up to the largest Marvel film to date. However, do you think it should be split up in the vein of the Harry Potter and Twilight conclusions? Let us know below.
