Getting back to Interstellar, though, this latest trailer helps to map out the next-to-impossible task that humanity faces. With planet Earth effectively on its last legs — ravaged by climate change and global food shortages — our humble race must look into the far reaches of space in order to find a new planet to call home.

That mission will be toplined by Matthew McConaughey’s Cooper, a former pilot and father-of-two who agrees to go where no man has gone before. Joining him for the galactic search party are Anne Hathaway and Casey Affleck and from the looks of the recently-released footage, the crew of the Endurance are a long, long way from home.

Jessica Chastain, John Lithgow and Michael Caine — who is now known as Christopher Nolan’s good luck charm — round out the ensemble cast. Interstellar will launch on November 7th, 2014 across cinemas and IMAX theatres (here’s a link to the confirmed IMAX locations). For more information on the film’s plot, you can check out the official synopsis below.

Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. With our time on Earth coming to an end, a team of explorers undertakes the most important mission in human history; traveling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars.
