Like it or lump it, 2015 is here in earnest and retail analyst Chart-Track has revealed the very first UK all-formats chart for the year — mind you, it isn’t too far removed from what we left with at the end of 2014.
Given that late December and early January are, for all intents and purposes, a dead zone in the industry in terms of releases, the only newcomer of note was Wii U exclusive Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. And while it debuted in North America before Christmas, the loveable Mario spinoff only made its way across the pond quite recently, where it debuted at 16th in the all-formats chart.
1) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
2) Grand Theft Auto V
3) FIFA 15
4) Far Cry 4
5) Assassin’s Creed Unity
6) The Crew
7) Destiny
8) WWE 2K15
9) DriveClub
10) Minecraft: Xbox Edition
For those of you who have kept track of the standings for the past couple of months, it should come as no surprise that Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare remains at number one — for the third consecutive week, no less. Elsewhere, Grand Theft Auto V and FIFA 15 were non-movers at second and third, respectively, with the rest of the chart being rounded out with the likes of Destiny, WWE 2K15 and Evolution Studios’ DriveClub.
In our in-depth review of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, we found Nintendo’s offbeat title to be a joy to behold, but a limited amount of content held it back from being a truly unmissable Wii U exclusive:
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a polished little gem, but the word “little” is key. While not brimming with content (it clocks in at about 7 hours), its brain-bending stages are a welcome dose of EAD Tokyo goodness, even if it does lack co-op. Short but sweet, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker isn’t a must-play, but you’re unlikely to regret buying it.
