After a 21 month hiatus, Harmonix is resurrecting the rock, as the developer announced plans to release new DLC for Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz. The content, which is scheduled for release tomorrow, will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Sorry Nintendo Wii owners.

While the Rock Band series was known to cover a wide variety of genres, the output for this week consists of nothing but solid rock. Fan favorites Avenged Sevenfold return to the series with “Shepherd of Fire,” which comes from the band’s 2013 release, Hail to the King. Another series mainstay, Foo Fighters, also make their return this week, as “Something from Nothing,” from their 2014 release, Sonic Highways, will be available.

Rounding out the releases for this week is the Rock Band debut of Arctic Monkeys. The Grammy Award winning UK act has long been requested by fans of the franchise, and this week’s release of “R U Mine?” should hopefully satisfy would-be rockers. Each track will carry a cost of $1.99.

As a fan of the franchise, there are a ton of questions I want to ask. For one, why is Harmonix resurrecting the franchise now? Is this just a one-off release, or is more planned? Also, will Muse finally make an appearance? The developer will be answering questions regarding the future of Rock Band throughout the week, so hopefully this is the start of something exciting.
