It seems that news of Agent 47’s next pixelated outing isn’t too far away, after a Tweet by developer IO Interactive revealed that the studio is gearing up to reveal more details about the next installment in the Hitman franchise later this year.
Responding to a fan question via Twitter, the company teased that news pertaining to the sequel is imminent, with all signs pointing to a reveal at either E3 or Gamescom in August.

This will mark the first fully-fledged entry into the assassin series since the well-received Absolution back in 2012. Since that time, both IO and publisher Square Enix have been releasing brief teases alluding to the next, as-yet-untitled installment, including some rather striking concept art from the game’s early build. In addition, reports have suggested that this new-fangled Hitman title will offer more open levels and variations on the franchise’s established gameplay.
Alas, we’ll have to wait patiently until this announcement before learning more of IO’s next chapter in the stealth-based series. Early rumors had at one point suggested that the title had received the axe in the thick of development, and that Square had officially pulled the plug on the project. Thankfully, this simply wasn’t the case, though the fact that it has taken so long for a sequel to see the light of day does indicate that work on the current-gen Hitman wasn’t exactly smooth sailing.
Either way, we’ll keep you right up to date with all of the announcements for IO Interactive’s new Hitman game as we learn more. For now, however, tell us, are you looking forward to Agent 47’s debut on the current generation of consoles? Give us your thoughts below.
