Ardent fans that have kept a close eye on the long-gestating development of the Deadpool movie may find it hard to believe that 20th Century Fox will shepherd the Merc with a Mouth in front of the camera in a mere two weeks. But that’s exactly what’s happening as the studio have confirmed plans to begin filming in Vancouver at the start of February, allowing Ryan Reynolds to slip into the blood-red guise once more as the wise-cracking hero.

And in an interview with MTV, the star himself touched upon how things finally fell into place on the superhero flick, and how the modest budget will actually benefit the Deadpool adaptation in the long run.

“It’s been a long time, but it’s happened in the right way and that’s all that matters,” Reynolds tells MTV. “We don’t have the kind of money that most superhero movies do, but that’s great, actually. Necessity is the mother of invention, and that’s why we get to make the movie we want to make.”

Whether this creative freedom will allow the writing team and director Tim Miller to push for an R-rated interpretation of the character remains to be seen; after all, Reynolds himself has long made it clear that a cinematic visualization would only work if it maintained the balls-to-the-wall nature of its source material. Speaking of which, the actor was then asked about the stellar test footage that blasted its way online last year, though he took no responsibility for the pre-emptive leak.

“I would have FOX’s lawyers so far up my ass they could smell Wade Wilson’s feet. No, no, no I didn’t leak it. But I would have. Looking back now, in a heartbeat. I should go home and scan the old hard drive and see what I’ve got in there.”

Tim Miller will bring Deadpool to the silver screen at long last when Ryan Reynolds takes center stage on February 12, 2016.
