Deadline is reporting that Marion Cotillard has signed on to co-star with Michael Fassbender in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed adaptation. With Justin Kurzel set to helm, the film will mark a reunion for the trio as Kurzel recently directed both actors in Macbeth, which is being released by The Weinstein Company later this year. Evidently, they all enjoyed working together and now, they’ll be teaming up again to bring us what looks to be a very promising video game adaptation (something that is all too rare these days).
Cotillard’s role in Assassin’s Creed hasn’t been revealed just yet, but like Fassbender, she’s in it for the long haul. New Regency and Ubisoft are planning to put out more Creed films should this one be a success, and both stars will be returning for any upcoming sequels, should they be given the green light. And, given the way that this project is shaping up, something tells me that we’ll definitely be seeing Fassbender suit up as the cloaked assassin on more than just one occasion.
Very rarely do video game adaptations attract this kind of talent, so it’s clear that there’s something special about this one. Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender are actors that don’t just hop on board a project for a paycheque. They’re both well-respected and highly praised talents, and if they’re attaching themselves to something, it’s likely because there is a very strong script in place.
Production on Assassin’s Creed is set to get underway this Fall, with the film currently pegged for a December 21, 2016 release date. We’ll keep you posted as more casting announcements are announced, but for now, tell us, are you happy to see Cotillard signing on to co-star?
