House Of Lies star Kristen Bell has signed on to appear alongside Melissa McCarthy in next year’s Universal comedy, Michelle Darnell.
The movie once again reunites McCarthy with her husband/Tammy director Ben Falcone. Story-wise, the flick will follow her in the titular role as “a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart with the help of a former assistant, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget.”
Bell’s role will be that of Darnell’s former assistant, who is described as “a mousy single mother who is trying to start a cupcake business.” While her most famous role, Veronica Mars, might not possess the same mainstream comedy spirit, Bell’s spot-on comic timing ought to bring a ton of chuckles.
Rounding out the rest of the cast are a quirky raft of supporting characters, who – like Bell – have a wealth of comedy experience on their resumes. Kathy Bates will play a “tough, wealthy and eccentric mentor,” whom Darnell is desperate to emulate, and Game Of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage is sinking his teeth into a villainous role.
Much like last year’s road trip comedy, Tammy, McCarthy and Falcone both penned the script – along with Steve Mallory – with Falcone attached to direct.
Michelle Darnell will arrive in theaters on April 8th, 2016.
