Amazon Studios might be pushing out their own original content, including the Golden Globe-winning Transparent, but the streaming game is still owned by Netflix. It’s been three days since they dropped all 13 episodes of House Of Cards season 3 and for most binge-watchers, that means there’s a whole year to wait until their next dose of Frank’s shady antics. To soothe the sting, the digital content behemoth has just announced the summer premiere dates for some of their hottest shows, including the third season of Orange Is The New Black.
First up is Canadian sci-fi series, Between, which expected to arrive sometime in May. Starring Jennette McCurdy as a pregnant teenager in a small town whose residents don’t live past the age of 21, this could very well be the year’s sleeper hit series.
Next, we have Sense8, the latest effort from The Wachowskis. Arriving on June 5th, it follows a bunch of random people from across the planet who become mentally entangled due to an evolutionary leap. By the brief snippets of chatter on the series, it has the potential to become another Heroes, so let’s hold onto that prospect and forget all about Jupiter Ascending.
The small screen reboot of the cult classic movie, Wet Hot American Summer, is also arriving shortly and will land in mid-July. Titled Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, the prequel series lands on July 17 and features returning stars Janeane Garofalo, Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler.
In addition, a couple of one-off comedies have been locked down date-wise. Chris D’Elia: Incorrigible lands on April 17th, and Jen Kirkman: I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine) appears a month later on May 22.
Finally, biographical documentary What Happened, Miss Simone? arrives on June 26th, and the third season of Orange Is The New Black lands on June 12th.
Tell us, what will you be stuck to the couch for this summer? Orange Is The New Black? Or Sense8?
