From out of nowhere screenwriter Peter Craig has emerged as one of the industry’s buzziest scribes. The scribe has racked up a solid resume of credits including Ben Affleck’s The Town, both instalments of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and the upcoming Gerard Butler thriller Hunter Killer. For his next project, he is set to reunite with his Mockingjay star Jennifer Lawrence, as Craig is now attached to pen It’s What I Do.
Based on the life of war photographer Lynsey Addario, the title of the movie is taken from her memoir It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War. Warner Bros. snapped up the rights prior to the book’s release and started to assemble a preliminary team to bring Addario’s emotionally-driven tale to the big screen.
Thus far the studio has struck gold. Andrew Lazar, whose experience on memoir adaptations saw him produce the Oscar-nominated American Sniper, is attached to produce; Steven Spielberg, who yesterday was confirmed to be at the helm of Ready Player One, is attached to direct, and Jennifer Lawrence has been connected to the starring role.
With so many major players interested in It’s What I Do – and the fact that everything emanating from it stinks to high heaven of Oscar victory – Warner is wanting to push forward on development. Alas, Spielberg is busy wrapping up Bridge Of Spies before he commences work on The BFG AND Ready Player One, and Lawrence is currently shooting her next David O. Russell collaboration, Joy. As for Craig, he’s reportedly scratching out drafts for two blockbuster sequels Top Gun 2 and Bad Boys 3.
Will any of them find the time for this future memoir biopic? Time will tell.
