Now that we’re into April and the year shows no signs of slowing down, the film industry is teetering on the edge of the blockbuster season. And one film that looks set to rev the anticipated annual event over the edge is Universal’s Furious 7, which is due to screech into theaters tomorrow, April 3.
Those in the UK will be in for a special surprise when setting out to experience the Toretto crew’s latest globetrotting adventure, as Odeon Cinemas and Warner Bros Entertainment UK have confirmed plans to screen six minutes of George Miller’s post-apocalyptic Mad Max: Fury Road alongside the latest installment in the street-racing series. Evidently, the studio is hoping to take advantage of an audience with an appetite for high-octane car chases, only in this case substituting the glitz and glam of supercars for a more outrageous, dog-eat-dog milieu.
While it’s not quite a like-for-like swap, this tactic of securing mindshare within similar audiences is becoming an increasingly popular trend, with Warner Bros.’ decision to dovetail the maiden trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice with the release of Fury Road being the most recent example.
Mad Max: Fury Road is barrelling down on its May release date, with George Miller’s bold reboot due to grace the silver screen on May 15. Will you be able to see a segment of the film alongside Furious 7? Let us know down below.
Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
