Today marks the official start of the blockbuster season with the release of Furious 7. From hereon out it’s back-to-back action tentpoles, high-profile comedy capers and of course, a couple of behemoth Marvel movies. Sneaking up on audiences much later in the summery popcorn schedule is Fox’s Fantastic Four, another comic book adaptation that fans are approaching with caution due to the previous big-screen treatment of the beloved property.
However, Josh Trank’s take is set to right the wrongs of the 2005 dud. In this summer’s offering, the titular four will acquire their individual powers after journeying to an alternate world. Their visit leaves Johnny Storm, Sue Storm, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm gifted with unique abilities that they must learn to manipulate in order to wipe out the villainous Doctor Doom.
With that in mind, the latest international trailer crafted for Japanese audiences hones in on a couple of new moments wherein those abilities are brought to the fore. Setting up most of the story as explained above, the short, fast-paced preview delves into what the group get up to after they receive those otherworldly powers.
Mostly mined from the first Fantastic Four trailer that landed for domestic audiences, there is one new import that warrants a look. Towards the end, a misty blue energy presents itself, which could be Sue as Invisible Woman, who later jets off into the sky alongside her brother Johnny. It’s a brief addition to the footage we’ve already seen, but if you’re a fan of the Fantastic Four and want to know more about Trank’s film, then we’d recommend watching the trailer above.
THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
