Speaking objectively, one of the more intriguing subplots of this generation is the way in which developers and publishers are striving to secure exclusive content and the like to get a foot up on their rivals. As much of a hinderance as it can be to the collective player, it’s a trend that looks set to continue unabated, particularly as the likes of EA Access evolve and develop.
In fact, Xbox Marketing manager Aaron Greenberg raised a lot of eyebrows just yesterday by revealing that DICE’s upcoming Star Wars Battlefront will be available to play first on Xbox One courtesy of EA’s subscription-based service. Taking to Twitter, here’s what Greenberg had to say when pressed for a release window.

What’s not clear at this time is how long Battlefront will be available on Access prior to its official, multi-platform debut later this year. Mind you, if EA adheres to a similar strategy as the recently-released Battlefield: Hardline, this early access may come packing a gameplay cap; that is, players will only be able to spend a limited amount of time with DICE’s third-person actioner.
As for the general development of Star Wars Battlefront, both EA and DICE have remained relatively quiet since the unveiling of the behind-the-scenes footage during last year’s E3 event. We know for a fact that the first gameplay trailer is in the can, with all signs pointing to a full reveal at Star Wars Celebration, which is due to take place between April 16-19 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California.
