Chaos Theory – or the butterfly effect, as it’s often linked with – is a mathematical study that tries to find a nugget of order amidst a seemingly inexplicable melange of randomness. A fitting subtitle, then, for Life is Strange episode 3, which has been slated for a release across all platforms on May 19 in North America, followed by a European release the next day.
Continuing the journey of Max and Chloe as the pair delve deeper into the mysterious disappearance of their fellow classmate, the third installment will hopefully answer some of the lingering questions left by the series’ first two chapters. Taking to its official blog, Square Enix published a brief synopsis for the upcoming episode, though it’s worth noting that the excerpt contains some spoilers for those who aren’t fully caught up.
In this next installment of Life is Strange, Max and Chloe’s investigation into Rachel Amber’s disappearance lead them to break into Blackwell Academy after dark, to search for answers. Secrets will be uncovered and Max will find another use for her power.
Developer Dontnod also went on to hint that Max will stumble upon another use for her time-warping abilities, which will no doubt open up various narrative avenues for users to explore come next week. With a tone not unlike cult favorite Donnie Darko, Life is Strange has already carved out a loyal following since it debuted back in February, and it’s one that only continues to grow with each passing episode. Will the climax deliver on the series’ intriguing premise? Time will tell.
Life is Strange episode 3 – Chaos Theory – will release across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on May 19 in North America. European users can look forward to Dontnod’s next installment the following day on May 20.
