The cast for Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2 is shaping up to be a mixture of familiar and fresh faces, with franchise vets and newcomers both factoring into the new film. Today brings word that up-and-comer Garrett Wareing, who recently broke out in the acclaimed drama Boychoir, has booked a supporting role in the pic.
Wareing will play a boy who winds up in hiding with America’s First Family when aliens return to menace humankind.
He joins a cast of franchise newbies including Maika Monroe (The Guest, It Follows), Liam Hemsworth (Paranoia, The Hunger Games), Jessie Usher (Starz’s Survivor’s Remorse), Travis Tope (Men, Women & Children), Sela Ward (Gone Girl) and Charlotte Gainsbourg (Nymphomaniac), along with returning stars Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox and Judd Hirsch.
Details are under wraps, but Independence Day 2 will find a new generation, including the stepson (Usher) of Will Smith’s fast-talking pilot, battling an extraterrestrial threat.
The pic has been dated for June 24, 2016.
