Well, it looks like there’s now even less reason to buy physical copies of games if you’re a PC gamer; Steam is now offering its users full refund services on almost any game they like.

You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam – for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn’t meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn’t like it.

It doesn’t matter. Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason.

There is, of course, a catch to the system. Those who want refunds on games they don’t want must put in a request within 14 days of the purchase and have less than two hours of play time on what they want refunded. Not too bad, right?

Honestly, it’s hard to take issue with such restrictions, as they’re both clearly in place to restrict potential abuse of the system. Plus, Valve has stated that any refund requests that are accepted will be issued within a week of receipt. Overall, it’s a pretty fair system and one that I think customers will greatly appreciate.

Additionally, it should be noted that Valve doesn’t “consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.” Just in time for the Steam Summer Sale, eh?

Tell us, are you finally glad to have the option of returning unwanted Steam games, or do you think the restrictions are a bit too heavy? Let us know in the comments below.
