Tired of unwillingly deleting older games on your PlayStation 4 to make room for new software? It’s a feeling that we and indeed Sony empathize with after the tech giant formally unveiled the lighter, 1TB model that has been deemed as the Ultimate Player.
Much like previous reports suggested, this new-fangled hardware isn’t quite the rumored Slim version of Sony’s current-gen hardware, though the revised PlayStation 4 will be noticeably lighter than its next of kin – by a full 10 per cent, in fact – with the company also noting that this PS4 2.0 will consume 8 per cent less energy. Leaner and meaner than its predecessor, essentially.
Shipping in black and white versions, it’s understood that Sony will begin rolling out the much-requested 1TB model in Europe and select PAL territories from July 15, according to PlayStation Blog. No word yet on pricing or whether the introduction of the beefier hardware will incur a price cut for the standard, 500GB model, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted as this story develops.
Lastly, the new 1TB version will sport a jet-black matte finish on the top of the console, here’s the official word from Sony.
“Offering twice the storage of the existing PS4, you’ll be able to download more of the games you love to your PS4, extend your play with more great add-on content and save and share even more of your best gaming highlights.”
Sony has instructed would-be buyers to consult with their local retailers about the exact price, indicating that the Japanese giant isn’t ready to unveil the asking price at this time. For more on PlayStation 4, stay tuned to We Got This Covered.
