Telltale Games wants to tell you a story – a pixelated one. Taking to Twitter, the prestigious studio confirmed plans to unveil the first details for Minecraft: Story Mode at Minecon this weekend, an event that will be held on July 4 and 5.

As the UK’s biggest Minecraft fan event, there is perhaps no better place to formally unveil the project in earnest. Here’s the official word from Telltale ahead of the London showcase.

Little is known about the new IP beyond its similarities to Telltale games past. Given that the studio has overseen the likes of Tales from the Borderlands, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, we can readily expect Minecraft: Story Mode to incorporate those signature narrative-driven beats not to mention the emphasis on player choice.

In truth, the company – widely considered to be one of the industry’s leading storytellers – surprised many when it announced plans to release an episodic series based on the mammoth title late last year. Then again, considering just how well its previous series have fared, it’s fair to say that Telltale has earned the benefit of the doubt.

Check back with We Got This Covered in a few days’ time when we’ll have a full rundown of Telltale’s reveal for Minecraft: Story Mode. Until then, see if you can wean any new details from the all-too-vague synopsis down below.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices. Telltale’s game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.
