Fresh off its strong E3 presence, Square Enix is already gearing up for the industry’s next major event: Gamescom in August. Due to kick off on August 5, the Japanese publisher has today confirmed that one of its most-anticipated titles, Final Fantasy XV, will be in attendance, and that we can expect a fresh batch of news relating to the prolonged JRPG sequel in a few weeks’ time.
As the biggest European gaming show on the industry’s calendar, Square is holding nothing back. Alongside new details for XV, Gamescom will also host the first playable demo for Avalanche’s hotly-anticipated open world sequel, Just Cause 3, while it’s understood that the likes of Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, Life Is Strange, Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below, and the soon-to-be-released PC version of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will all be on the company’s show floor.
Alas, considering that it’s highly unlikely we’ll learn much more about Kingdom Hearts III following its E3 blowout, it is Final Fantasy XV that will no doubt attract the most interest among Square Enix fans at next month’s public showcase. Plus, the fact that the JRPG sequel skipped out of E3 itself – lest it be overshadowed by the FF7 remake – we expect to learn much more about gameplay, story and how that Episode Duscae demo is trucking along. Whatever Square opts to reveal, it is a concrete release date that ardent fans have been holding out for, and we have our fingers crossed for the Japanese publisher to finally break that silence at Gamescom next month.
Gamescom 2015 runs from August 5 through to August 9 in Cologne, Germany. We’ll have all the news coming out of Square Enix and Final Fantasy XV – and indeed all of the other exciting in-development projects – as it happens.
