Remedy’s time-bending adventure game Quantum Break will be date for a release on Xbox One this week, according to Xbox Boss Phil Spencer.

Having skipped an appearance at E3 back in June, it’s understood Microsoft will place a heavy emphasis on the upcoming third-person title, along with fellow exclusives such as Crackdown and PlatinumGames’ Scalebound. Fielding questions via Twitter, Spencer didn’t openly confirm that an announcement would be made, though judging by the tone of the Tweet, a release date seems imminent.

Originally pegged for a release at the tail-end of 2015, Remedy opted to postpone Quantum Break into 2016 to avoid being smothered by the other software headed to Xbox platforms this holiday season – most notably Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fabled Legends and Forza Motorsport 6. At the time, Microsoft Head of Publishing Shannon Loftis noted that “with so many games launching this year, moving Quantum Break to 2016 extends our incredible portfolio into next year with a monster new IP.”

Traditionally speaking, Microsoft has struggled to gain a foothold in Europe, where Sony has long enjoyed the lion’s share of the market. Mind you, with Quantum Break, Scalebound and Crackdown all waiting in the wings for Gamescom, it’ll be interesting to see how the Redmond-based giant performs in Sony’s absence.

What do you think, though? Will Quantum Break and its accompanying live-action series make their debut in early 2016? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
