The barrage of chatter surrounding Spider-Man’s new wardrobe in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has, until now, remained concerned with what the teenage webhead’s suit will look like. According to insider sources, it’s an impressive piece of garb, and is expected to keep in line with The Avengers-style costumes worn by Spidey in the comics.
Yesterday also witnessed the arrival of a ‘leaked photo’ of the latest Spider-Man incumbent, Tom Holland, clinging to a New York City skyscraper. Whether that’s a true screenshot of Holland, decked out in a black facemask, wearing blue and red clothes is uncertain – although this author doubts its authenticity. But, apparently there’s a bigger issue at the heart of the Spidey suit debate. And that’s that he might wear more than one.
[zergpaid]From what we know thus far, Spider-Man makes his debut MCU appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Originally thought to be a cameo, we now know it’s a larger role than anticipated as he undergoes his initiation into The Avengers. In fact, according to a new report from Heroic Hollywood, we’ll actually see Peter Parker step into more than one outfit during his Civil War screentime. He is introduced wearing a homespun costume and later receives an upgrade from Tony Stark. While unconfirmed, this does fall in line with earlier reports that Spider-Man is an ally on Team Stark in the movie.
Interestingly enough, while the “Avengers-friendly” costume mentioned yesterday sticks closer to the traditional Spidey color scheme, in the comics, Stark cooks up the “Iron Spider Armor.” Forgoing the blue and red for red and gold, it’s a spin on Iron Man’s own superhero style. Including it would be a welcome spot of fan service and set things up nicely for his first standalone outing in 2017.
We’ll find out what’s on the agenda for Spidey’s wardrobe when Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6, 2016.
Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
