Diplo And Sleepy Tom Go Future House On Be Right There

It seems like I'm always writing about Diplo's off-base collaborations these days. The bass music icon has been particularly outspoken about his disdain for formulaic EDM, which makes it ever more surprising to see him team up with Mad Decent signee Sleepy Tom on a future house track like "Be Right There."

For that matter, Sleepy Tom himself isn’t exactly the poster child of future house. His recent future bass track with Grandtheft, “Hold On,” was already enough of a departure from his usual trap stylings, but the two artists clearly intended to make a big statement with the track by debuting it on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show.

Unfortunately, though, the track doesn’t add as much to the future house conversation as you might expect from the likes of Diplo. A vocal sample reminiscent of ’90s garage is offset by a testosterone-filled bass line that fits the formula to a T, and little to no other elements serve to set the track apart.
