Shooting on the first standalone movie set in a galaxy far, far away recently kicked off in London. To coincide with its official production debut, Lucasfilm wowed the world with that first compelling look at the leading cast in uniform. If we hadn’t already been clued in at Star Wars Celebration, that single photo left no room for doubt: Gareth Edwards plans to make Star Wars: Rogue One (or Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) a dark, atmospheric experience. Right from the drab, battered uniforms of the rebels to the shadowy locale.
And now, thanks to one of the movie’s stars, Donnie Yen, that wardrobe trend looks poised to continue. In an image posted to Instagram – which has since been deleted – Yen revealed a series of Stormtrooper helmets potentially for inclusion in the movie along with the following caption:
“I am the force and I fear nothing… Going to put this in my company’s display room.”
Out of the three headpieces, which you can feast your eyes on above, it’s the middle one that’s the most recognizable. It cropped up in the early trilogy and is synonymous with the lumbering hordes.
[zergpaid]The remaining two designs suggest that multiple helmets are made available to the troops for various occasions. Due to their somewhat distressed appearance, it’s safe to assume they’re well worn. Whatever the reason for their existence, their retro-futuristic aesthetic is a perfect fit for Edwards’ vision.
Starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Alan Tudyk, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker and Riz Ahmed, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens worldwide on December 16, 2016.
