Jake Gyllenhaal and Jean-Marc Vallée are certainly no strangers to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This year’s edition though is a bit different for the both of them, as their new film, Demolition made its world premiere on Thursday night, officially opening the prestigious fest.
Focusing a successful investment banker trying to come to terms with the tragic death of his wife, Demolition is already earning stellar reviews, with our very own Darren Ruecker saying the following about it:
Demolition finds a way to make its heavy-handed grief metaphor into a pleasingly self-aware and abundantly entertaining smash of a movie.
Before the film premiered to a sold out audience, the cast and crew hit the red carpet to chat with reporters and journalists. While due to timing we weren’t able to catch up with everyone, we did get a few minutes with Jake, who was more than eager to talk with us when we asked him why he’s been gravitating to these heavy emotional roles lately.
Hear what he had to say in the video above, and be sure to catch Demolition when it hits theatres on April 8th, 2016.
