Core and Warner Bros. may be treading on hallowed ground in most people’s eyes, with many holding up Kathryn Bigelow’s 2001 original as something of a cult classic, but this latest clip to blast off the production line boasts slick editing and an array of impressive stunts. From wingsuit flying across a mountain range to surfing – or at least attempting to surf – impossibly big waves, the 2015 version of Point Break is gunning for a truly ostentatious take on the lives of adrenaline junkies.

For the uninitiated, the plot will follow Luke Bracey’s Johnny Utah, a rookie FBI agent tasked with befriending a suspected criminal in order to gain access to their exclusive gang of high-skilled crooks. It’s headed up by Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez), a character who grows close to Utah despite the overriding suspicions about his true motivations.

Sound familiar? It should. The original Point Break heavily influenced The Fast and the Furious all those years ago, though as history has taught us, Universal was able to tap much more mileage out of the latter.

Ericson Core’s Point Break redo is on course to release on December 25 in North America.

In Alcon Entertainment’s fast-paced, high-adrenaline action thriller Point Break, a young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), infiltrates a cunning team of thrill-seeking elite athletes – led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a spate of crimes in extremely unusual ways. Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the architects of this string of inconceivable crimes.
