Following his incredible work on Birdman, it should really come as no surprise that Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s The Revenant has become one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2016 (though it will receive a limited release in North America on Christmas Day). Throw in a cast which is made up of names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domnhall Gleeson and Will Poulter, and it’s easy to see why there’s so much buzz surrounding this movie.
For those of you unfamiliar with the premise of this Western, here’s the official synopsis:
Inspired by true events, The Revenant is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald. Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.
Today, a batch of new images have been released, which can be viewed above and really emphasize what a visually stunning movie The Revenant is going to be. Based on the harsh environments which can be seen here, it’s easy to now understand why the cast faced such difficulty while shooting (Tom Hardy was forced to drop out of Suicide Squad to go back to continue filming when bad weather delayed the production schedule).
