LexCorp. The world alone is enough to send chills down the spines of ardent DC fans – and indeed the Last Son of Krypton himself – and it’s one that takes the stage in the all-new viral video for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Building off of the character profile for one Lex Luthor Jr. (Jesse Eisenberg), today’s snippet is more about rounding out the nefarious power-monger, but it still generates ample buzz for Zack Snyder’s superhero face-off in its own right.
Bearing semblance to the Prometheus viral marketing campaign, which had Guy Pearce’s Peter Weyland trumpet humanity’s God-like nature, the promo is designed as an unveiling of LexOS, a powerful, water-tight operating system that will herald a new frontier in electronic security.
[zerg]While the video is intending to expand the lore of Dawn of Justice beyond the titular pairing, it’s a fairly accurate approximation of the brand of slick motion graphics video that mega-conglomerates would roll out to advertise their products, and ultimately makes LexCorp a more tangible entity as a result.
In yesterday’s rather surreal Fortune magazine interview, Jesse Eisenberg’s Luthor detailed the mantra of his father’s company, and how it supposedly puts the needs and demands of the people first.
“Handouts don’t change the world. The true gift of LexCorp is our products. We are on the cusp of unveiling a technology that will change the world forever,” Luthor said. “It’s about safety. This is a product that will protect you, and everyone, from threats you don’t even know about yet. I don’t want to scare anybody… much. But there are a lot of threats out there, and they’re here today.”
There’s no indication of whether Warner Bros. will really commit to the viral marketin campaign and release LexOS to the public, though we’ll keep you updated on the status of the system – and all things Dawn of Justice – as it develops.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice lands in theaters on March 25, 2016.
