As promised, EA and DICE have peeled back the curtain on the first gameplay clip for Star Wars Battlefront‘s maiden DLC, Battle of Jakku.
Exploring some of the war-torn history behind the sun-scorched exoplanet, the footage very much angles the free-to-download expansion as a prequel, focusing on the cataclysmic events that preceded the sprawling destruction that can be glimpsed at in trailers for Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In terms of content – one of the more vocal criticisms levelled at Battlefront – Battle of Jakku will herald the release of two new playable maps, and a game mode in the form of Turning Point. Similar to Walker Assault, the newcomer will host up to 40 players across the expansive desert, as the Rebel Alliance and Empire battle relentlessly for supremacy.
Experience the Battle of Jakku, the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Releasing for those who pre-ordered Star Wars Battlefront tomorrow, December 1, Battle of Jakku will become available to download for all users the following week, December 8. According to EA, it’s the first of many free add-ons being planned for the licensed shooter, while the premium season pass encompasses a total of four expansion packs, emotes, modes and additional maps. It’s priced at $50.
