Variety reports that Matthew Goode (Watchmen) is in talks to join Oldboy director Park Chan-Wook’s English language debut Stoker. Originally, Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) was attached to star but has since dropped out.
The film, rumored to be a vampiric thriller, tells the story of an eccentric teen named India, played by Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), who while mourning the death of her father encounters a mysterious uncle she never met. Goode would play the part of India’s uncle (the role previously set for Firth) while actress Nicole Kidman (Nine) has signed on to play the teenage girl’s mother.
The script was written by former Prison Break actor Wentworth Miller and will be produced by siblings Tony and Ridley Scott. The film is said to be a top priority for Fox Searchlight Pictures due to Park’s rising international celebrity.
