Wade Wilson and Vanessa Carlisle, a match made in heaven. At least, that’s what today’s brilliant new banner for Deadpool is championing, teasing Tim Miller’s irreverent R-rated superhero bonanza as though it were your typical Valentine’s Day romantic comedy.

20th Century Fox’s latest promo for its no-holds-barred origins tale is just another feather in the cap of what has proven to be a fine and memorable marketing campaign, buoyed by the untameable charisma of Ryan Reynolds, who is such a natural fit as the Merc with a Mouth that it’s become difficult to distinguish where Reynolds ends and Deadpool begins.

Riffing off the mushy TV spot from late last week, today’s poster ought to give ardent followers of Tim Miller’s live-action feature a laugh or two, and confound those who don’t know exactly what a Deadpool is. Even still, early buzz going into the X-Men spinoff is sky-high, with mooted talk of a sequel being fast-tracked to occupy the spot left vacant by the all-but-cancelled Fantastic Four 2. But will Reynolds’ true-to-form interpretation of the gun-toting mercenary hit the ground running in its pursuit of box office glory? Time will tell.

Rounding out the cast list for Deadpool are T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat and Ed Skrein as Ajax. It’s due to open on February 12 for those in North America and in the meantime, you can check out a brand new TV spot below.
