Shortly after the first clip from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted on Conan this week, director Zack Snyder offered up intel on one of the key components from the movie; Batman’s mode of transport.
Specifically, his Batmobile, which is a synonymous piece of kit that’s been the source of much fan chatter since the first image of the latest Bruce Wayne debuted. That pic saw Ben Affleck decked out in Batman’s duds standing beside the iconic vehicle, and its differences to versions in earlier movies were part of a purposeful design:
“First of all when we were working on the movie and we were like ‘We’re going to put Batman in the movie, that’s cool,’ I said ‘We need a Batmobile, right?’ Because if you’re the smallest amount of a dork you want to make a Batmobile right? That seems like the first thing you want to do. I think the cool thing that we try to do, you’ve seen the Chris Nolan Batman movies and the Tumbler, they repurposed a military vehicle. So the cool thing about our Batmobile is it is purpose-built by Bruce Wayne to be the Batmobile, it allows it to be slightly Battier.”
Snyder goes on to discuss how the Batmobile is actually roadworthy, and not just a prop car that’s only able to drive a few blocks. Even if it were, the sheer hulk of this thing is impressive enough and now that we know it was specifically designed to be Wayne’s creation, that makes it all the cooler.
Starring Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from Man of Steel, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th.
