Super Bowl 2016 is little over a week away and already, studios across the industry are aligning their major 2016 blockbusters to be showcased during the sporting event. One of the tentpole releases vying for your attention is Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon’s Bourne 5, and Universal has now slated the first-look trailer to be revealed alongside the Super Bowl on February 7.
At least, that’s according to Eric Van Lustbader, official writee behind some of the Bourne novels. In a now-pulled post via Facebook, Lustbader expressed his own excitement about the seemingly imminent reveal, where we’ll also catch wind of the sequel’s official title.
Here’s the post in question via ScreenCrush:
“The first trailer for the new Bourne film will be shown during this year’s Superbowl telecast. At that time I believe you’ll find out the title of the film. (I know it, but I’m sworn to secrecy). So tune in on February 7th to check out all the excitement. I, for one, can’t wait!!!”
Ironically, what lends Lustbader’s message a degree of veracity is the fact that Universal took the Facebook post down in the first place; besides, Super Bowl 2016 will no doubt follow in the footsteps of its predecessors by becoming one of the most-watched shows in the country, giving the studio a massive platform to showcase its franchise revival.
With Greengrass and Damon at the core – the pair previously worked across The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum – the as-yet-untitled Bourne 5 will also star Julia Stiles, Vincent Cassel, Tommy Lee Jones, Riz Ahmed, Scott Shepherd and Ex Machina breakout Alicia Vikander in an “action-driven” role.
Bourne 5 is primed to leap into theaters on July 29, 2016. Be sure to check back to We Got This Covered on Sunday, February 7 when we’ll have full coverage of Universal’s trailer and many more.
