Italian developer LKA.it will be porting its psychological thriller, The Town of Light, to Xbox One sometime later this year. As of right now, the game is set to debut on Steam on February 26th, for the PC, Mac and Linux operating systems.
Advertised as a supernatural free game, The Town of Light is a first-person experience that takes place on March 12, 1938. It’s there that we will find sixteen year-old Renee, who has been ripped out of the world that she knows as a result of being deemed “a danger to herself and others and a cause of public scandal.” As you’ve surely guessed, this means that the title will deal with the unfortunate problem that is mental illness, and will do so almost one hundred years in the past.
Given its Italian origins, it should also come as no surprise that The Town of Light is set in Italy, itself. Details inside of its press kit promise a meticulously crafted version of a place that actually existed.
“The Town of Light is a first-person psychological thriller set in the Volterra Psychiatric Asylum,” states a press release. “The asylum was shut down in the late 1970’s by a law from the Italian government which instructed all asylums to close completely and give back patients their civil rights.”
“The game, based on extensive research and real facts, will be played through the fictional eyes of Renée, an imaginary 16-year-old girl that suffers from the symptoms of mental illness. She is looking to find out what’s happened to her and the player is the only one that can help.”
