Don’t Expect Deadpool 2 To Go Overboard With Production Budget And Cameos

Go big or go home is too often the mindset fuelling many a Hollywood sequel that comes tumbling off the production line, but Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick caution that the Merc With a Mouth’s sophomore effort won’t splurge a bigger budget on grand action sequences because it doesn’t jell with the nature of the character.

Having already stormed to $300 million worldwide, 20th Century Fox is no doubt eager to get production on the sequel underway, and according to Ryan Reynolds, the proverbial drawing board is hiving with ideas of where to go next.

Even still, Reese and Wernick want to shield the relatively small and edgy corner that Deadpool inhabits, meaning that the introduction of Cable in the follow-up could take place outside of those creative parameters.

Per Collider:

I think there’s a real conceptual difference between taking other characters and big things and bringing them into Deadpool’s reasonably small, gritty world and the opposite, taking Deadpool and placing him among big ensembles who are fighting aliens or in the future where he and Cable are doing something in the future. I think if Cable and Deadpool team up, it will likely be in Deadpool’s world.

In terms of the potential budget for Deadpool 2, don’t expect Fox’s sequel to mimic the lavish spectacle of the X-Men films anytime soon.

That allows us to control that budgetary thing a little more; I don’t think we’re gonna see Deadpool and Cable on some far-flung planet 300 years from now because I just feel like that’s gonna be expensive, A, and will also take away from the relatability of Deadpool. We don’t want $150 million to go make the next movie, that’s not Deadpool. Deadpool doesn’t lift cities up into the air or battle aliens coming down to earth, that’s just not Deadpool.

Deadpool 2 still has a long way to go before leaping into production, but that hasn’t stopped the Merc With a Mouth hijacking We Got This Covered to post an impassioned letter about why he’s so awesome.
