Last month it was announced that snappy screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, Steve Jobs) will be sitting in the director’s chair for his next movie, Molly’s Game. News surrounding the project now points to Sorkin’s search for a leading lady on the film, with rumors stating that he’s offered Jessica Chastain the part.
The role of the titular Molly would task Chastain with embodying “an intelligent and driven” skier and Political Science major who left school for a year after her dreams of entering the Olympics were crushed. After “a bizarre series of circumstances,” Molly Bloom finds herself heading a ring of elite, high-stakes poker for nearly a decade while attempting to evade the eye of the FBI.
The story is an adaptation of the real-life Molly Bloom’s autobiography. Sorkin was sought to adapt the book in 2014 by the Mark Gordon Company, with Gordon and Amy Pascal set up as producers. Of course, in addition to his new directing duties, Sorkin will himself pen the screenplay.
Although Chastain has yet to commit to the movie, reports surrounding its production hint that the actress is eager to join the film given Sorkin’s involvement and its general pedigree.
