One week out from release, a bevy of images and two new clips for wartime dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot have rappelled online.
Arriving by way of directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Focus/Crazy, Stupid, Love), the film takes inspiration from Kim Barker’s wartime memoir, The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days In Afghanistan And Pakistan. 30 Rock fan favorite Tina Fey will spearhead the film as Baker, a budding Chicago Tribune reporter who agrees to become a war correspondent on a whim without a shred of experience.
Playing up the fish-out-of-water dynamic, upon touching down in the Middle East she teams with Margot Robbie’s British war journalist, and the two set about covering Operation Enduring Freedom – AKA the global war on terrorism – from the frontlines. It’s a million miles removed from the dramatic heft of, say, The Hurt Locker, but today’s snippets drive home the point that Fey is the perhaps the perfect fit to lead Ficarra and Requa’s feature.
Alfred Molina and Christopher Abbott also on board to star in the Paramount flick, with Billy Bob Thornton leading the charge as Col. Hollanek. Martin Freeman, meanwhile, features as fellow journalist and love interest to Fey’s Kim Barker. And the brief synopsis describes her plight as so: “When reporter Kim Barker’s (Tina Fey) life needs something more, she decides to ‘shake it all up’ by taking an assignment in a war zone. There, in the midst of chaos, she finds the strength she never knew she had.”
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot blasts into theaters on March 4.
