Tim Burton’s next fantasy adventure has been simmering away for a while now. Initially due for release today, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children has been pushed back until the far end of September, but despair not. Entertainment Weekly has dropped the first few images from the movie, giving us a decent glimpse at the leading cast.
Burton’s movie is based on the novel by Ransom Riggs – with a screenplay by Kick-Ass scribe Jane Goldman – and follows the story of a curious youngster named Jake. Asa Butterfield tackles the role, which takes him to a special orphanage that works as a portal of sorts. For children with special powers, they’re able to move into an alternate realm under the guardianship of Eva Green’s titular character.
In the accompanying interview, this is how Burton describes Green’s character: “She’s like a scary Mary Poppins, and she can turn into a bird.” If that’s not got you sold on the movie, then I don’t know what will.

“From visionary director Tim Burton, and based upon the best-selling novel, comes an unforgettable, thrilling and haunting tale. Sixteen-year-old Jacob follows clues that take him to a mysterious island, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores the abandoned bedrooms and hallways, he discovers that its former occupants were far more than peculiar; they possessed incredible powers. And they may still be alive.”
