William Friedkin’s adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist is widely considered to be one of the most terrifying movies ever made, and now audiences will get the chance to witness the head-spinning antics of the demon Pazuzu on the small screen.

Fox’s take on the material, which will apparently loosely adapt the novel as “a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller,” is finalizing its cast, and the latest name to be added is Academy Award winning actress Geena Davis.

Though the mother of the possessed child is named Chris McNeil in the book and film, Davis will be playing Angela Rance. Here’s how THR describes the character:

A beautiful, regal and proud woman who, while weighed down by stress, does everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is currently struggling. She can’t help but think, however, if perhaps her nightmares about a demon are a sign of what’s wrong.

Davis joins Brianne Howley as Angela’s daughter Charlotte, Hannah Kasulka as Charlotte’s sister Casey, Alfonso Herrera as Father Tomas and Ben Daniels as Father Marcus.

The Exorcist pilot will be written by Fantastic Four scribe Jeremy Slater and the pilot is set to be directed by Rupert Wyatt.
