Deadline is reporting that Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley has emerged as an early frontrunner to take on the title role in Warner Bros. and MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot.
Sources close to the nascent production claim that the British breakout is one of the leading candidates currently in consideration for the coveted part of Lara Croft. Conversations are still in the early stages, so take this one with a grain of salt.
[zerg]A total overhaul that bears no affiliation to the 2001 and 2003 movies – Angelina Jolie picked up the torch as the famed archaeologist across both films – a potential Tomb Raider has been collecting dust on the shelf at Warner Bros. for years at this point. But the video game adaptation was given a new lease of life late last year after recruiting Norwegian director Roar Uthaug, and finding a suitable actress for the revival has since taken top priority.
That brings us to the potential casting of Daisy Ridley. Buoyed by the record-shattering success of The Force Awakens, we know that the actress is committed to at least two more mainline Star Wars movies. Warner Bros. evidently has franchise hopes for the Tomb Raider reboot as well, so it’ll be interesting to see how this potential casting pans out and, crucially, if it can avoid scheduling conflicts.
Pitched in a similar vein to the Crystal Dynamics origin story – where Camilla Luddington provides voice and motion capture to Lara Croft – Warner Bros. and MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot is finally gaining steam. But will Daisy Ridley be the one to spearhead the series forward?
