300 was great and the Zack Snyder-less sequel 300: Rise of an Empire was better than pretty much everyone expected. With both of those movies proving to be a success at the box office, fans have been wondering about the possibility of a third instalment, but surely there’s not really any story left to tell in that Ancient Greece setting, right?
Well, it sounds like that may be a sentiment Syder agrees with, as he had this to say about the future of the 300 franchise in a recent interview:
“There may be. There may be. We’ve been talking a lot about sort of different incarnations of 300. We’ve been talking about is there a way, possibly, we move out of Ancient Greece and use it as a framing device for other conflicts that happened throughout history. I think I mentioned that we talked about the Revolutionary War version, and we talked about the Alamo, and we’ve talked about there’s a battle in China, a “Lost Legion” kind of concept, any of those kinds of things are on the table.”
With Snyder busy taking the helm of Justice League, it’s unlikely he’ll be involved in any future 300 movies beyond serving as a producer, but those definitely sound like some really cool ideas. Bringing the filmmaker’s aesthetic to settings like the Revolutionary War would be unlike anything we’ve ever seen on the big screen before and is a clever way to keep the franchise alive.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like there are any concrete plans in place just yet, but it will be interesting to see just how things develop with any future 300 movies.
