Two weeks ago, news emerged that Daisy Ridley was in contention to headline Warner Bros. and director Roar Uthaug’s long-gestating Tomb Raider reboot.
Without a finished script to its name, it’s still early days on Warner’s video game adaptation, though Ridley did confirm there “have been conversations” regarding the possibility of the actress donning the tank top and dual pistols as one Lara Croft.
[zerg]Word comes by way of The Hollywood Reporter, who spoke to both Ridley and her Star Wars: The Force Awakens co-star, John Boyega. Firstly, the actress confirmed those rumored talks, before expressing her own excitement about the possibility of leading Warner’s franchise overhaul – her key role anchoring Disney’s own franchise revival sent Ridley’s career into the stratosphere, after all.
Per THR, the actress stated that she is “waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it’.” When quizzed about her own personal interest and whether Ridley would consider accepting the gig, she added “absolutely, I’m trying to fill up my calendar.”
Later in the piece, John Boyega chimed in with his own two cents, claiming that the British breakout would fit the bill perfectly.
“I played ‘Tomb Raider’ the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version,” Boyega admitted. “But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘this is you!’ and ‘you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She should be.”
Citing Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ video game franchise and its origins tale as inspiration, Warner Bros. will look to fire up production soon after the Tomb Raider reboot has cast its principal lead. But do you think Daisy Ridley will pick up the torch as the famed archaeologist?
