HBO considers it the best season to date, one which doesn’t contain a single weak episode, and now Game of Thrones writer-producer Bryan Cogman has revealed that next month’s season 6 will contain the biggest battle sequence in the show’s decorated history.

Game of Thrones has staged some truly epic fight scenes in the past, whether it’s the pulse-pounding battle between the Mountain and the doomed Red Viper, or the sprawling encounter that featured the Free Folk (Wildlings) under siege by a flock of White Walkers and their army of undead Wights.

Yes, “Hardhome” was quite spectacular, but during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cogman noted that the creative team will only continue to up the ante.

“Season 6 definitely [has] the biggest [action sequence yet]. We’ve always wanted to get to a place – story-wise and budget-wise and time-wise and resource-wise – where we would be able to do a proper battle, with one army on one side, one army on another side.”

One thing that will immediately pique the interest of fans is the fact that Miguel Sapochnik, director of the critically lauded “Hardhome” episode, is back on board to stage what is seemingly the biggest Game of Thrones battle yet. We’ve come an awful long way since Tyrion was conveniently knocked out before season 1’s battle of the hill tribes, haven’t we?

The Powers That Be have declared Game of Thrones season 6 will premiere on HBO come April 24. Are you ready for another foray into the political cauldron of Westeros?
