Anyone who’s had the pleasure of attending a Dirtybird show knows just how rowdy it gets. To the uninitiated, the label’s trademark brand of house might get lost, but once you experience that grooving bass in a live setting, you immediately understand. There’s something about the beefy low-end, funked up melodies, and underlying grit that coagulates into a throbbing frenzy, flipping a switch somewhere inside.
This sensation is exactly what label don Claude VonStroke has wrapped into his newest single, “The Rain Break.” The title track off his freshly released EP, it’s a vibrant collection of galloping beats and devious toplines.
Typically we don’t see original vocals gracing Dirtybird releases themselves, but this is different. VonStroke has captured the rowdy essence of a BBQ and worked it in with uncompromising bounce. Here’s what the man himself had to say about the track’s inception:
“I kept singing the ‘Break For Love’ bassline over and over again in my head but the vocal that always popped in over the top was from Oran Juice Jones. I can’t explain why that happened but I just thought they went together so well that I ran with it.”
