If there was ever any doubt about the red-hot chemistry underpinning The Nice Guys, a new featurette for Shane Black’s imminent noir thriller ought to put any lingering apprehensions to bed.
Featuring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, the film’s two dashing leads, the video imagines a scenario when, after wrapping up work on Black’s stylish feature, Gosling and Crowe attend a therapy session to iron out any potential flaws in their, er, relationship.
Designed more to spotlight that near effortless chemistry between Gosling and Crowe than anything else, we wouldn’t mind if those intimate – and frankly hilarious – therapy sessions were spun out into a separate feature. Nevertheless, when it comes to donning 70s attire for The Nice Guys, Gosling and Crowe take point as down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March and muscle for hire Jackson Healy, respectively.
Rooted in a stylish depiction of 70s Los Angeles, Black’s neon-drenched thriller has been billed as something of a spiritual successor to the director’s excellent Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Whether that holds true remains to be seen, though we do know The Nice Guys will have that aforementioned married couple working together “to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. During their investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy that reaches up to the highest circles of power.” Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley and Kim Basinger are also among the cast.
Shane Black introduces moviegoers to The Nice Guys on May 20. While we count down the remaining month, two new character posters can be found in the gallery below.
